Where you live shouldn’t determine whether you can reach opportunity.

Hamilton is growing, and major investments are changing how people will move across our city.

But a transportation system only works when it gets people where they actually need to go — to jobs, education, appointments, services and opportunity.

As Mayor, I will launch Routes to Opportunity, a coordinated approach focused on a simple outcome: helping Hamiltonians reach the places and opportunities that matter to them reliably and within a reasonable amount of time.

That means working with our transportation partners to make HSR, LRT and GO connections work better together, so moving between different parts of our transportation system is easier and more reliable. 

It also means putting a stronger focus on employment access particularly major employment areas and jobs that can be difficult to reach without a car.

For shift workers and others whose schedules don’t fit a traditional nine-to-five commute, transportation needs to reflect the reality of when people actually start and finish work.

We will work with employers and major institutions to identify transportation gaps and practical ways to improve connections to jobs.

And for seniors, residents with accessibility needs and others who face gaps in the final part of their journey, we will explore practical solutions and test what works before expanding new services.

This isn’t about telling Hamiltonians how they should travel. It’s about making sure our transportation network connects people to where they need to go.

It starts by getting more from the transportation services and investments we already have, fixing practical gaps and adding new solutions where they make sense. 

It also means making sure that when we construct or rebuild roads, we consider residents who cycle to work or school and ensure our infrastructure works for all modes of transportation.

We will measure success by something that matters: whether Hamiltonians can reach more jobs and opportunities within a reasonable amount of time.

Mobility should open doors to opportunity.

To jobs. To education. To services. To a stronger economy.
