Statement on the Dominion Society’s planned conference in Hamilton

August 28, 2026

Dominion Society’s anti-immigrant messaging and its planned conference are not welcome in Hamilton.

The latest update that organizers are still actively seeking venues in our city makes clear that this issue is not going away. Hamilton Police have confirmed they are approaching venues and warned that some businesses may not know who they are hosting.

I want to thank the Hamilton Anti-Racism Resource Centre (@h.a.r.r.c) for creating a guide to help businesses and venues recognize extremist groups.

We must ask ourselves: if “hate has no home here,” why do those spreading hate feel they can do so in Hamilton? If we are serious about this, it must be backed by real action, not just words.

If a venue knowingly chooses to host this event, I will personally, and as Mayor, never attend events there, and I encourage Hamiltonians to do the same.

We must also support and collaborate with the many organizations and community groups already doing the work to confront hate.

Hamilton is a diverse city, strengthened by generations of newcomers and immigrants. Every resident deserves to feel safe, respected and welcome.

“Hate has no home here” cannot simply be a slogan. If we mean it, we have to act like it.

See you Saturday in front of City Hall.
